Six people run Above & Beyond. Tommy Coffey, the general manager, holds the Texas TDLR responsible-master license and signs off on every install. Five field technicians (Matthew, Victor, TJ, Stevie, and Joshua) handle the diagnostic, repair, and install work. Combined, the team carries roughly 100 years of HVAC experience, and most of them have worked together for ten years or longer.
That last number is the one that matters on a service call. The tech at your door already knows the dispatcher who booked you and the install lead who built the system. There is no fresh handoff to walk through.
Tommy started in the trade as a porter at a local San Antonio HVAC company straight out of high school, then 30 years in the San Antonio trade before founding Above & Beyond in 2019 with one truck.
The Field Technicians
Matthew, Victor, TJ, Stevie, and Joshua. Five technicians run the service and install side of the company. Every one of them holds an EPA Section 608 Universal certification and has been through A2L refrigerant training for the next-generation refrigerants now reaching the market.

Matthew handles a heavy share of the diagnostic and repair calendar: capacitor and contactor work, refrigerant leak diagnostics with the electronic detector, blower-motor and circuit-board replacements. He is the technician Tommy most often calls into a call when a customer needs a second set of eyes mid-diagnostic. Also covers office dispatch when the phones run heavy.

Victor leads most full-system installation crews: outdoor condenser sets, evaporator coil swaps, line-set and disconnect work. Splits time between field installations and office dispatch.

TJ runs installation and field service alongside Victor. Ductwork measurement, return-air sizing, and the final commissioning walk on new systems all sit in his lane. Roughly a third of his calendar is in-home service work: diagnostic visits, drain-line clears, and maintenance-plan tune-ups.

Stevie runs a mix of field service and shop dispatch: residential repair, maintenance-plan tune-ups, and answering the main line when calls come in.

How the Team Works Together
Most of the team has worked together for ten years or longer, several came over from the same prior company. When you call the main line a real person answers; no phone tree, no automated triage. The dispatcher who books your visit is one of the technicians or Tommy himself, and the tech who shows up has read the call notes first.
On the install side, the crew that measures the home is the crew that sets the equipment. No measurement-then-installation handoff where the second team finds out the attic access does not match the plan. The technician who diagnoses your repair also runs the quality-check walk after the work is done.
Every technician on the truck carries EPA Section 608 Universal certification and has completed A2L refrigerant training for R-454B and R-32, the refrigerants now replacing R-410A. Tommy holds the Texas TDLR Class A license (TACLA00095687E, valid through 2027), which covers unlimited tonnage residential through commercial. The company carries $20 million in general liability and full workers' compensation.
The hiring plan for the next twelve months is two more field technicians and a dedicated install team, paced to call volume.
