Nest Thermostat Installation in San Antonio, Plus Honeywell and Ecobee Options
Nest 3rd-gen and Learning install, C-wire add, system compatibility verification, full Wi-Fi setup. Same-day in most cases.
Above & Beyond installs Nest smart thermostats across San Antonio. We are a Google Nest Pro installer, which means we configure your Nest correctly the first time, handle the heat pump and dual-fuel staging, pair it cleanly with Carrier Infinity, Day & Night Observer, and Trane ComfortLink communicating systems where applicable, and file the manufacturer paperwork that keeps your AC's warranty intact.
Honest tradeoff: Nest is a great product, but it is not our default smart thermostat recommendation in SA. Our default is the Honeywell T-series for three reasons specific to SA heat pumps and ductwork. We install Nest, Honeywell, AND Ecobee. You choose what works best for your system. We will walk through the differences during the estimate.
Free estimate for new thermostat installations (no diagnostic fee). $89 diagnostic credited back when we are called for an existing-thermostat replacement or troubleshooting. Written estimate before any work. Same-day installation when you call before noon.

Honeywell T-Series: Our SA Default Recommendation
Honeywell T6 Pro and T9 are our default smart thermostat for SA heat pump installations because: (1) Heat pump auxiliary-heat staging is conservative, calling aux heat only below 35 degrees outdoor temp or with a 2 degree-plus temperature deficit (Nest's default is more aggressive, which costs $30-$80 per month extra in winter electric bills until reconfigured). (2) Dual-fuel changeover handles natural-gas-backup hybrid systems cleanly without requiring an outdoor sensor add-on. (3) Wi-Fi reliability during SA summer storm season is better. The downside: the Honeywell UI is more utilitarian than Nest's display.
Nest (Google Nest 3rd Gen Learning, Nest Thermostat, Nest Learning): Great Product, Different Strengths
Nest's strengths: best-looking display, learning algorithm that adapts to your schedule without programming, mobile app integration with the Google Home ecosystem, and sophisticated energy reports. Nest's tradeoffs in SA: (1) Default heat pump staging is aggressive about calling auxiliary heat and needs manual reconfiguration on install day or you pay $30-$80 per month extra in winter electric. (2) Dual-fuel changeover requires an additional outdoor sensor (sold separately, $40-$60). (3) Wi-Fi can drop during summer storms more than competitors. For homeowners already in the Google ecosystem who prioritize the learning algorithm and aesthetic, Nest is a great choice; we just install it correctly with the staging tuned.
Ecobee (Ecobee 3 Lite, Ecobee Premium, Ecobee Smart Thermostat): Apple-Ecosystem Friendly
Ecobee's strengths: native HomeKit support (Apple ecosystem integration), included room-sensor capability (averages multiple rooms instead of just the thermostat location), and best built-in voice assistant (Alexa built in on Premium models). Ecobee's tradeoffs: defaults are similar to Nest (aggressive aux heat calls, needs tuning), and Wi-Fi reliability is comparable to Nest. For Apple-ecosystem homeowners or those who want room-sensor averaging, Ecobee is the best choice. We install it with the staging tuned correctly.

A real San Antonio team member answers. For new installs, we book a free estimate visit. For troubleshooting existing thermostat issues, $89 diagnostic credited back with repair.
-
Tech walks through your home's HVAC setup, identifies the existing thermostat wiring, confirms whether C-wire is present, and identifies heat pump vs straight AC vs dual-fuel vs communicating-control system. Walks through Honeywell vs Nest vs Ecobee tradeoffs based on your system.
-
Verbatim parts and labor before any install. Brand options with current pricing. C-wire pull or adapter cost if needed. Surge protection add-on quoted separately.
-
Remove old thermostat. Label every wire (we photograph the wiring before disconnecting). Install new mounting plate. Patch and paint wall if old footprint is larger than new (small fix included; major patching quoted). Wire new thermostat. Configure for your specific system (heat pump or straight AC, single-stage or multi-stage, dual-fuel if applicable, communicating bus if applicable). Wi-Fi pair on your network. Create account if customer does not have one. Pair mobile app.
-
Heat pump auxiliary heat call temperature, dual-fuel changeover temperature, fan run-on time, humidity setpoints, and cooling stage thresholds. Tuned to your home's specific situation, not factory defaults that cost extra in winter electric.
-
Run full heat cycle (verify all stages call correctly). Run full cool cycle. Test fan-only mode. Walk through the mobile app with you. Show you how to adjust setpoints, view energy reports, and set vacation mode.
-
If staging needs adjustment within 30 days, we come back free to recalibrate.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Nest, Honeywell, and Ecobee?
Nest: best display, learning algorithm, Google Home integration, aggressive heat pump default staging (needs tuning). Honeywell T-series: our SA default, conservative heat pump staging, most reliable Wi-Fi, less aesthetic. Ecobee: HomeKit and Apple ecosystem, room sensor capability built in, similar default staging to Nest. We install all three.
Will I need a C-wire for my smart thermostat?
Yes. Smart thermostats need 24V continuous power from a C-wire. If your existing thermostat does not have one (common on older installations), we can either pull a new C-wire from the air handler ($150-$250 add) or install a C-wire adapter ($60-$150 add). We recommend the new wire pull when the run is accessible; adapter when access is difficult.
Can you install Nest on a heat pump system?
Yes, and this is where install quality matters most. Nest's default heat pump staging calls auxiliary heat aggressively, costing $30-$80 per month extra in winter electric. We reconfigure the auxiliary call temperature during install (down to 35 degrees or lower) to prevent this. Most chain installers leave defaults in place.
Can you set up the Wi-Fi and mobile app for me?
Yes. We complete the full Wi-Fi pairing, account creation, and mobile app pairing during the install. By the time we leave, your mobile app is working and the thermostat is on your home network with full features active.
